Need Help

Not the usual kind I ask you for (prayer, character-building Mommy ideas, etc,) but lunch ideas for a kid who eats mac-n-cheese for almost every meal. Except for the times he eats a grilled cheese, pizza, or plain pasta. Really, aside from waffles/pancakes, cheese, and crackers, that's all he eats. I know it's my fault but could we skip the lecture since I'm running out of time? Ha! Got any ideas for what to send with him tomorrow? Really, y'all, I'm at a loss. I tried a lunchable today. I was so excited to see if he'd eat it.

I came and went while he was eating and could tell he was actually eating so I was calling Sean to tell him it was a success when I walked up to the table when he was done and found this.
Wish they made lunchables with three kinds of crackers 'cause that's all he ate.

I HATE that! I get so dang excited, thinking Luke is actually eating something that is not a carbohydrate, only to watch him spit all 15 cashews out in one fell swoop or cry as I try to force it down anyway...arg! Our boys are identical here. I have few successes and in fact he was relegated to play pen time (screaming, the kind that takes a lot of huuuuh, huuuh's to wind down from as their bodies are wracked with sobs) b/c I was so frustrated after watching him reject every bit of dinner. Quesadillas work for us...? I did think the Lunchable was a great idea, though. I have heard that Deceptively Delicious is a good one (Jessica Seinfeld)...

I know its gross but will he eat cold mac and cheese? or cold pizza?

Too bad the lunchable didn't work....that would have been perfect. What about the pizza lunchables? or is that too complicated?

I have the deceptively delicious cookbook if you want to borrow it. My friend Ashley uses it all the time with her kids and they never know the difference.

My little ones love those little mini pepperoni! We often do those, some sort of fruit and crackers...

Quesadilla is a good idea... anything wrapped in a tortilla can be fun for little ones-unless he hates tortillas. I told you our stick trick... apple "sticks", toast "sticks", pear "sticks", hot-dog "sticks"... he finds anything in the shape of a stick worth considering.

Oh, and when I was little my mom did a GENIUS thing. I'm guessing she did it b/c we were low on groceries or whatever. BUT, she used to make me a "special plate" and it was small bits of crackers, pickles, lunch meat, cheese, preztles... anything small. Sometimes healthy, sometimes not. The key was that it was comprised of many small things. I totally loved it.

Also...somewhere I saw a link to a website about school lunch ideas. I was looking for it, but can't find it now. Google it!

Had a blast today. You know it's a good playdate when the kids come home happier than they were when they left. We got in the car and Trevor said "Charlie, fun... Jo Jo baby, fun... go see..."

("Jo-Jo Baby"... that might stick.)
All of that meant he totally digs your house and your kids! ;-)

I think you should make hot macaroni in the morning and put it in a tupperware. Then it will be room temp when he eats. Or is that bad for them? But not like meat that can't be left out, right? A little girl in my class brought a huge tub of macaroni & cheese for lunch today. That was all, and she ate it.

I'm in the same boat. Last year, Ryder would eat a Toddler Lunchable and Applesauce at School..then I'd give him a snack when we got home. He won't eat meat or cheese now. He will eat PB&J, but it is a "Peanut Free" zone. I'm going to send him with a lunchable next week and know that he'll just be hungry when he gets home!

P.S. Matt said the Lasagna was the BEST lasagna he had ever had! Thanks for sharing that one!

Story of my life Mary! Lucas is 5 years old and eats so few things that I constantly feeling like a terrible mom. He is gradually getting a larger span of options but for the most part it's 5 or 6 things. Don't feel bad...it they are healthy, gaining weight and actually eating anything then I think you are good.

Lucas will eat Cheese Quesadillas, Chicken Nuggets (all the time), spaghetti (likes that they are "worms"), Mac & Cheese, Cheese Pizza and anything with rice in it. I know that most of those aren't super healthy but they are how we get by! I make my MIL's ckn & rice recipe regularly b/c it has little bitty pieces of chicken mixed in with minute rice, cheese and broth.
